comcast center

On Tuesday August 7th, 2007, I went on a tour of the yet unfinished Comcast Center. I got as high as the windowless 55th floor where the only thing between me and the Canadian granite 900' below was 1" thick steel cord roping and my sense of balance. I took ~150 shots during the hour I was on site. Not as many as I would've liked to take, but I had to give myself some time to soak it all in. I took a moment at each face of the building.

Looking South, I could see the city's familiar tall buildings from river to river. To the West I could see the Cira Centre across the river as small as a model. Northward is a view of the Parkway streaking to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. To the East, a view of the area of town I call home.

This once in a lifetime opportunity was thanks to Liberty Property Trust. Click the image above or the link below to see the city as one has never seen it before and will most likely never be able to unless you're a skyscraper window cleaner.

The shot above is a 180° panorama from the southern face of the Comcast Center. The 55th floor does not have windows installed just yet [as of 08.07.07] which gave us an unobstructed view of things. You can see the two I-beams at either end of the photo covered with fireproofing (I'm pretty sure that's what it is). From left to right, you can see the Delaware River, City Hall, Liberty Towers, Mellon Bank Center, IBX building and the Schuylkill River.
