My father just gave me a Minolta Hi-Matic 9, a rangefinder with full auto, aperture priority, shutter priority, or full manual exposure modes. It used a 1.35v Mercury battery as well. I just followed your recommendation about using the Zinc-air 675 battery with an o-ring, and the meter is back to life. Nice!

It has a Rokkor 45mm f/1.7 lens, so we'll have to see how that works. It was my grandmother's camera, and the chromes from it always came out fine. It should be fun to play with...

Thanks for the link to my site, I see quite a bit of traffic clicking through to my Canonet pages.

If you want aperture exposure, I think the closest you could get is the Canonet 28. it's full auto, slightly slower lens. The Ricoh 500G is a nice little camera, works fine with alkaline batteries and is aperture priority.

And great images! I have an old Canonet QL17 too - your images really make me want to stick a roll of film in there again!

Take care,

The results from that camera are really great! Your newspaper stand shots are really cool, including the one here.

I'm not as enamored with the rangefinders as you are... other than pocketability and the quiet shutter, I find SLRs preferable in pretty much every way. I must be missing something... Your results show how good they can be.

And, um... Smith & Wollensky is on the west side of the square, where traffic flows southbound (counter clockwise around the square). That cyclist is riding south: with the traffic, not against...
