Nikon D3

nikon d3 by dpreview.com
From everything I've read (by people who've actually used this sucker), this camera may swing the tide of photojournalists and sports shooters back to Nikon from Canon. See what (Philly-based wedding shooter) Cliff Mautner and (one of the baddest photogs in the biz) Dave Black have to say about the Nikon D3.

Additionally, DP Review's Phil Askey takes a look, and James Russell writes for Luminous Landscape about the D3. Rob Galbraith has rounded up some examples of shots taken with the D3, in the wild, from ISO200 to ISO25600 [that's not a typo].

I cannot put into words how much I want this $5k [before taxes and new glass!] brick of full frame wonderful.

If the 5D Mark II offers anything close to the speed of the D3, then Canon will have built walls around 3 sides of it.

Remember the 1D Mark III offers 10fps and the 1DS Mark III at 21 megapixels is close to competing with medium format digital.

The shots I've seen from the D3 at high ISO are bonkers. Bonkers I tells ya! The Canons were ISO kings until the D3. Let's see how the full production run models are and we'll see if there are 1D MIII like problems. At almost twice the price, I don't think the 1Ds MIII is twice the camera, but hey, both are so far out of my price range I shouldn't be saying anything.

I have been the proud owner of the D3 for nearly a year now. I keep on asking myself how can Nikon improve on this camera. Then they brought out the D3s and the D3x. Still the D3 will be more than a good work horse for me for a few years yet. Maybe I will be saying the same about the D4 in the next couple of years.
