The Future of the Democratic Party?

my vote

What I saw this evening around 8.30p or so on MSNBC.

Paraphrased…

DNC Chair Howard Dean: The genius of Chuck Schumer in finding a candidate like Bob Casey isn't that he's pro life, but that he's a great person and a great foil to Rick Santorum.

Hardball host Chris Matthews: What about his stances as a pro-life person? What about his positions on partial birth abortion. His potential votes on appointed judges. The laws his father passed in the state. What if he wants to bring those views to the floor of the senate?

Dean: Look, he has a variety of positions on various issues.

Lovely.

Dean went on to say how he would personally invite Sen. Bob Casey to speak at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

Ricky's out. Great. He's going to go become a bajillionaire now. Now Casey's in "representing" me. Fuck.

I'm thrilled that Joe Sestak is the projected winner in his race.

Casey shouldnt speak at the convention just because of the fact that I dont think he will keep even a caffeinated crowd like that awake.

Still mad about Casey winning eh? One of my favorite moments last night was seeing Santorum's daughter crying on the stage and I said to myself…"Don't worry little girl…your dad will be able to spend lots of time with you now."

I'm not mad about Casey winning, I'm mad about Casey winning. It should've been one of any number of other better candidates.

True. He was a bad candidate that ran a terrible campaign, running against a powerful, entrenched incumbent with tons of cash and an extremely well managed campaign and Casey STILL blew him out of the water.

They could have run a real candidate. I find it hard to complain though. I'm still just generally happy.

Will the real candidates please step up next to the best candidate and winner Casey? The fact is that as much of an prick Santorum is, he still got 1.5 million votes while 2.1 million votes went to Casey. Pennsylvania is still conservative, and having Casey as our senator is a fair compromise. Casey carried not only Philadelphia and Pittsburgh but also all of their Republican leaning suburbs. If you look at the Pa. vote for Senate, by County in the Inquirer, you'll see that York and Lancaster Countsie are the only two counties of significant voters choosing Santorum over Casey.

Thank God Santorum was defeated. If we didn't win any other race I would have been happy to see that bastard go down. You know, Howard Dean is looking pretty smart today. His fifty state strategy was very controversial and I originally thought it was a mistake but it worked. Now if we can just keep from screwing it up, maybe we can put a Democrat in the White House in 2008.

it is our own fault for allowing the middle-class white feminist organizations to dismantle the women's liberation movement in the 1990s. Deciding on a strategy of relying on the courts and police to protect clinics, they sent us young, radical women clinic defenders home and told us to vote. And we did. Or we worked on other activist issues. With nobody fighting for women's lives and forcing politicians to listen, how can we expect them to care about us? And I'm serious, women are still dying from illegal abortions, and if they outlaw it here, it will be like Latin America where illegal abortion is a leading cause of death for women of childbearing age.
Unless we learn how to do it for each other ourselves, safely, like women did in Chicago in the early 70s.
