Rita's Water Ice

What can I say, I just don't get water ice. No matter how much I try to convince myself that it's not Italian ice and it's not a slushie, I expect one or the other when I bite/spoon into it and when it's not either of those things, but a weird amalgam of those things plus more, I react badly to it.
That's a shot of the Rita's on Spruce St in between 15th and 16th Sts, right by where Lady and I used to live. There used to be this dinky coffee/ice cream shop there which was always empty, but was staffed by these indy rocker chicks all tatt'd up. I think I went in there once to get some change in the year I lived there.
The Rita's makes a killing there. It's always busy. This was the scene at about 11p on a not particularly hot night. It still astounds me that they're closed for six months and still manage to make an overall killing for the year. It's just nuts. Philly just loves them some wooderice. I just don't get it.

most of the flavors do nothing for me. but on a steamy hot night, lemon water ice is maybe the best thing ever — like coolness in a cup.

LOL…I just had a lemon water ice at that very Rita's. Hmmm. It's certainly not Italian Ice, but something about accessibility matters…it's just down the street…yummy tasty on a hot Friday I have to say.
