Hey everyone, I was planning on getting the Aspleund in full and was just wondering what the max height you can have the mattress at because it says the bed sides can be adjusted.

I've had this bed for about 5 years and love it. It was horrible to put together with the awful metal rods that didn't have the correct holes drilled and the slats that kept falling out.

Just remove the metal pieces and use real wood slats .... not the ones they give you. Haven't had any problems for years now. I have a boxspring too.

We bought the ENGAN 140 x 200 bed with 2x SULTAN LADE slats from the Funabashi store in Chiba, Japan. We used our own "boxspring" mattress, plus a thin Ikea matress.

On the 2nd night, the slats fell through the hole but after going on the phone and giving them absolute HELL (we even mentioned this blog and the fact that I triple-checked with Ikea staff before if all the prts including the slats were designed to go together) and threatening to get a full rfund for not only the bed, but delivery fees, and the underneath storage shelves and bedside cabinets, they agreed to:

- New ONE PIECE slats for half-price and no delivery fees in 2 days' time.

- A new extendable cross-beam, which bent due to the struts falling.

- Someone to check/fix any assembly errors in a week's time at no additional cost.

bed frames that are based on steel would give you a more durable bed and a bed that last longer :"`

I bought the queen-sized Aspelund bed a few years ago in CT and moved to Baltimore this past month. Unfortunately, the headboard got completely damaged en route and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about how to replace it. Unfortunately IKEA has stopped stocking Aspelund in the Birch color and I really love the set, plus I have the chest of drawers and bedside table in the same finish. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

We bought the Aspelund bed today. I can't figure out how to secure the cross braces in the holes at the headboard/footboard and the sides. The screw goes through those holes fine but it's too big for the braces so I can't tighten it. And, it seems the braces should go on top and not the bottom. Or maybe I need a nut underneath to really secure it?

Agreed, the Aspelund bed design is flawed - the side rails are too small and the side panels too flexible. I have fallen through it a few times over the years!

But, on the third time assembling ours (we have moved a lot), I've got it better than ever.

The key is the metal braces that run between the centre rail and the sides. Push the sides of the bed inwards and then tighten them - this will hold the bed squarer.

Also, you must use the basic flat wooden slats "Sultan Lade" as the sprung ones will fall through more easily.

The bulk of our furniture is from IKEA, most of it inexpensive - the Aspelund bed is the first item I have had a real problem with, and that can be solved with careful assembly. We have moved house three times now with most of this stuff and it is still solid.

Thank goodness we got the Aspelund for free......I've NEVER bought IKEA crap & never will. Thanks for all the honest feedback. Nothing beats good old fashioned hardcore woodwork for furniture. It's amazing that folks continue to be suckered by IKEA. Oh well, I suppose the concept of "temporary furniture" is nice to some.....

I bought a Hemnes queen sized bedframe and I never got slats with it at all. My mattress was just snuggly fit in the frame but after reading how slatting really holds the mattresses up, I really should get some slatting.

However, for $90 Canadian (what they are charging for the slatting), I figure I can do this cheaper and better myself. I'm going to Home Depot tonight and getting some solid 1" x 2.5" wood cut and making this slatting fit perfectly in the bed. I going to try to then bolt the boards into the frame afterwards to secure them. I figure I could do this for half as much as IKEA will charge me and I know I can do a better job at it.

Will post pics when I figure this out and share it with everyone :)
