apartment

You may recall the above photo, well, it's all mine now. Here are some pics of my apartment before I started to move all of my crapola into it. It's pretty full at this point, but I'm not ready to unveil it to the world. So sit tight.

Many Moons Have Passed

Monday, August 23rd, 2004

Many moons have passed since my last post and tonight, I will have lots to say. Lady's birthday was eggcellent. She loved the Freaks and Geeks DVD set I got her. We've watched about 4 episodes. it was one of Lady's favorite shows growing up, before it was cancelled after like 8 episodes. But now, she has them all, plus ones that never aired and 29 commentaries goo! We had dinner at Maggiano's. Sooo yummy. After dinner, we went to see one of her co-workers play a show at Tritone a cool divey bar that has live music all the time. He played some rock/country/blue grassy stuff and was really good. He was jamming on his guitar. I took about 60 photos that night, mostly of him playing and a few of Lady and the other in our crew. I'll post them later on in the week.

We're finally all moved into my new place. The only thing that's not in my new building is my unicycle [my bicycle sans front wheel]. I'll get to that another time. I took 2 trips to Target to buy some odds and ends. The coolest thing I got is this oscillating fan with remote control and thermostat. I can set it so that when it is above a certain temperature, it'll automatically come on and when it's below the temperature, it'll shut off. Pretty sweet, eh? You'll have to come by to check it out for yourselves. But I'm still lacking a bed and a TV. I think I saw an ad in my paper for cheapo beds. I want me a deal like AK and I got in DC; we each got a quenn + box spring + frame + delivery for like $240 each. It was quite rediculous. We still talk about that purchase to this day and how crazy it was to get such a deal. I think I'm gonna head over to Best Buy to get a TV and Madden 2005. I've read so much about it and this is definitely the longest I've waited to purchase a Madden game since I got PS2 several years ago, I think 2001.

Last night was the Fantasy Football Draft. Me and some buddies from back home, college and friends of frinds participated in a 12 team, 18 round draft. I'm pretty happy with my squad and I've already received an offer for one of my picks. We'll see how it all shapes out. I'll keep yous updated and AK: the Ditkas are so going down.

Praying Mantis

mantis

It's been a little bit since I've posted some original artwork, so here goes.

I saw this praying mantis on my way home for lunch a few days ago. I stopped and reeled off a few shots. I couldn't really get a great shot of it though, but I thought it looked so cool. This is the second praying mantis I've ever seen. I took some photos of the other one I saw in NY, but they didn't turn out great either. Maybe they're like Vampires or something.

But on a sadder note, I saw, what I'll assume, were the remains of the manits 2 days later on the sidewalk. I saw a crushed mantis and I can only assume it was the same one, cause, how many praying mantises have you seen on the corner of 15th and Locust next to Fado's? Me? One.

Here's another famous praying mantis.

99% Done

Friday, August 20th, 2004

Now, the only things left are a box fan, my laptop, toiletries and a few odds and ends lying around. It's been a hard 4 days and tomorrow, after work, I will be fully moved into the new pad. I still need a bed, a TV and I still have to transfer my cable service over there though, so I still have my work cut out for me.

Continuing on news of my new place, I'm getting a new fridge care of my awesome landlord. I showed him the busted fridge and he thinks he busted it while defrosting it before I moved in. I helped him bring in an all new "frost free" fridge. He's installing it tomorrow while I'm at work. He also told me that he's getting me a new range put in with one of thems glass surfaces instead of actual burners. They're the ones that make red circles on the surface. Pretty high tech, eh? I think I'd actually prefer a gas range, but who am I to choose? I think it'll look pretty sweet.

I'll put up some photos of the new place once I get a change to hook up my cable and get a little bit more settled. Right now, it looks like my current apartment threw up into my new apartment. My stuff is everywhere! OK, off to bed to rest up after 4 hours of moving.

Attention RNC Protesters: Discounts Avaliable!

Wednesday, August 18th, 2004

So what's this I hear on Air America Radio and later read in hte New York Times? Well, here are the first three paragraphs from the actual story, no I did not make this up:

Thinking about smashing windows or overturning cars during the Republican National Convention? Think again: that will cost you a discounted buffalo chicken salad from Applebee's or a cheaper ticket to see "Tony n' Tina's Wedding."

In a transparently mercantile bid to keep protesters from disrupting the Republican National Convention later this month, the Bloomberg administration will offer "peaceful political activists" discounts at select hotels, museums, stores and restaurants around town during convention week, which begins Aug. 29.

Law-abiding protesters will be given buttons that bear a fetching rendition of the Statue of Liberty holding a sign that reads, "peaceful political activists." Protesters can present the buttons at places like the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Sex, the Pokémon Center store and such restaurants as Miss Mamie's Spoonbread Too and Applebee's to save some cash during their stay.

Click on the New York Times link above to read the entire story.

Does Bloomberg really think that this is the reason that people will not do crazy things in protest of the RNC? Well, I don't think so. I think if people want to smash windows and flip cars and whatnot, I don't think they're concerned with discounts on Broadway shows. Charlie Brown once said: "Good grief."
