I really wish I could be up in NYC for the week. Taking photos, protesting, organizing… not working. I saw this beauty on
Gothamist along with
another great shot of the Madison Square Garden protesters. I just hope that this is the stuff that makes the news all over the place and I hope that there is no violence because if there is, you
know that
that is what they'll show instead. In order to get
Kerry-Edwards into office, we're going to have to do it without outbursts of violence no matter how much we are prodded.
I remember when I was in school in
DC and I attended an IMF/World Bank protest and I also used the event as a project one my photo class; it would later be included in my
New Media Online Portfolio at school in
NY. At that A16 protest, I witnessed a Korean journalist be struck in the head and beaten to the ground by a DC Metro cop. We formed a circle around him until he could get some medical attention; I snapped a photo of him while in the cricle. I was also rammed while reloading my film by a cop on a motorcycle and sprayed with some seriously strong police-issue pepper spray. I don't recall seeing a single act of violence aimed back towards the cops during my 2 days out in the streets, but I know that there was some.
I don't know where I'm going with this one, but I just know that I really want to be there for the politics involved as well as the opportunity to practice my art. Another time, another place.
